You generally will get an email from American Express soon after registering and immediately following your purchase.
If you don’t live in or near these cities, it is still easy to get in on the deal by searching a small business in this list provided that it satisfies the following condition:
- The orders post to your American Express Account from the Relevant City Above (i.e. for Boston it should be something like Urban Tees, Boston, MA – they should NOT use any third party outside the cities listed above).
For the second year in a row, American Express will help drive traffic through the doors of small businesses with this special incentive. And I think this is a very creative way for American Express to promote acceptance of their cards at small businesses, which has always been their relative weak spot due to their slightly higher fees for the merchant. During last years promotion, over 20,000 people were able to get $25 from their American Express cards. Here is the fine print for 2012:
Eligible small business merchants are independently owned small businesses located in the United States that accept the American Express Card. Purchases made at large or national chain stores, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible. Prepaid, Corporate Cards and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible. [...] Statement credits are generally issued within 5 business days after your qualifying purchase, but may take up to 2 billing cycles to post to your account.
